Week Eight

Who was the most influential person in your life? How did this person make you want to become better?

As i write in one of my post before, the most influential person in my life is definitely my grandfather. First of all i caring the same name like him. In my country is tradition that children when get born getting name from grandparents if they was a good persons, about name deciding families with their best man (godfather).

Why my grandfather was so influential person in my life? First of all you have to know how life story and then you will understand. I will try to explain little bit of his life.

Everything starting when we was younger, his family wasn't so rich, like whole country who just came out from WW2 (his grandfather died in this war). He just finish 4 grade of elementary school, but this didn't stop him to became very smart and intelligent person. He get married very young, and then he went out of his parents house and start to live alone with his wife, my grandmother. Long period they live like subtenants till they buy first house. My grandfather work so hard for his first house, he work for one wealthier man from town as a servant for more than one year, 24 hours. After this he start to work in rural cooperatives and his life really begin, he buy some fields, and he began to work in agriculture. Soon, they bought new house, where i still live. My grandparent was very smart to make money and to manage with them. Also my grandmother helping him a lot about everything.

He also suffered to had a car accident and almost died. But fortunately he survive and get healed and continue his life path. He's stories about travel to Italy and Trieste to buy some needs for agriculture without knowing any other language beside Serbian, or that he drove cattle two days in another city on his feet, and finally did not sell anything and had to return, or how he selling watermelons in Osijek, Croatian city, before the Civil war began, are just some of the stories that waiting to be told on some another time…

All i can do is try to be at least as my grandfather used to be…

The Shawshank Redemption

The Shawshank Redemption

Viewing Worksheet

What happens to Andy Dufresne and Red?

Andy and Red met in prison. Later they became friends.

What do we learn of Andy and Red's characters?

Andy’s character appears to be good hearted, which is why we believe in his innocence. Red is narrator of the story, contraband smuggler in the prison. With helping to each other they become best friends. What I learned is that doesn't matter whatever you did in the past you still can find true friend in unusual place.

What do we learn of the nature of the prison? Give examples.

The Shawshank prison grounds as a dark, dreary, and unpleasant place. This casts a shadow over the prison and creates a gloomy and rather lifeless atmosphere to it, establishing a depressing environment.

What does Andy endure in the first few years? Be accurate and specific.

In the first few years of his stay, he is beaten and sexually assaulted by other prisoners. He does not break down, reads his Bible in his cell and confidently walks by himself.

What does the library represent to Andy? Think about time, education, friends, music and hope.

The library represents freedom outside the walls of Shawshank. A bright window for the imagination that looks out to the world beyond the fences and barbed wire. Andy's dream for a library was to give all of the inmates a chance to escape their bondage for a while, a chance to be, at least for a brief time, free men once again.

Identify a scene where music is important. Explain how it is used and to what effect.

When you read a book, or listen to a piece of music, you are transported beyond the boundaries of your own little world, and you experience the visions of others in all of their human variations. When Andy plays the music over the tannoy, everyone stops what they're doing and for a few minutes they're free men in their minds.

Using evidence from the film, explain the following peoples characteristics and say why they are important:

  • Warden Norton - chief of the prison. He portrays himself as a strict Christian, but this is most likely a facade to maintain a good public image. He has no problem with ordering Captain Byron Hadley to beat any inmate that interrupts him with his nightstick.
  • Brooks - Brooks has been a prisoner at Shawshank prison for over 50 years. The peaceful old man who feeds birds and tends to the library. He is as a mentor for the others.
  • Tommy - he was brought to prison on robbery charges. He told to Andy that his old prison-mate killed his wife.
  • Captain Hadley - Hadley was a harsh prison guard who repeatedly beat inmates, in some cases so badly that they died. He saved Andy from the Sisters because Andy was useful to Hadley and Warden with finance advices.
  • Other Secondary Characters:
Bogs Diamond - the head of "The Sisters" gang and a prison rapist.
Heywood - is a member of Red's gang who are long sentence serving convicts.

What happens at the end of the film? What message does it send to society?

The two main characters achieve their freedom and live happily ever after.

Week Six

Is there anything in your past that you would like to change?
Would you change it if you could?

This is very difficult topic because we have to remember the past and to search deep to find what we would like to change if we could. When i search in my past i'm not really sure if i want to change something or not. Because you know how is one saying, don't look what's behind you, but remember the way that you crossed, to be who you are. So i think the same like this proverb. But since i have to speak about something in the past that i would like to change if i can, i can find something. This can be my wish to travel all around world, but i didn't travel at all when i was younger, i started recently to travel.

Now is question why is like this? I'm not really hundred per cent sure why is like this, but lets go step by step. When i was younger my country Yugoslavia, now Serbia, was passing trough transition and trough very bad time. When i was born it was Civil war in my country, in 1999. my country was bombed, in 2006. one part of country (Montenegro) get independence, and again in 2008. other part of country get independence too (Kosovo). In fact, Kosovo break away without consent of my country and with help of other countries, but this is topic for some another day. Anyway, very hard situation and first of all no enough money was one of the reason and the biggest reason. Another reason can be, all of my friends didn't really like to travel so i didn't had with who to travel.

On the end i start to travel, i collect some money, travel to USA, and then i worked on student exchange program, make something and travel all around USA, trough Route 66, started in NYC, trough Cleveland, Chicago, Sent Luis, Oklahoma, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Also i lived in state of Maine and Ogunquit city and Florida and Miami Beach. When i come back from USA, I also travel in a lot of European cities like Paris, Rome, Prague, and countries with visit more cities like Hungary, Germany, Austria, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Montenegro, Bosnia, etc.

If i can change something in past i will travel more when i was kid. But even this is not that bad right?

Week five

Have you ever been involved in some serious wrongdoing? What lesson did you learn from the experience?

Once a upon a time i was involved in some wrongdoing when i was a kid. I mean this isn't so much  serious wrongdoing but it was little bit wrong. One of my best friend and me wanted to go to our capital city in Serbia, Belgrade to watch football game of my favorite football club, Red Star.

When i ask my father to go on the game, he of course refuse because of few reason, first i was young and never go by myself, it was very dangerous to go alone, and game is finishing very late so he is worry how i will come back. So his answer was no. Do you think that this stop me? Since that mistakes is a natural part of life. Of course this didn't stop me, the only problem was that we didn't had enough money, but when we collect we had enough to buy game tickets and maybe for some drinks. So how we will get there, i ask my friend, he say me no problem, we can hitchhike.

Ok, lets do this, we decide. We meet each other and go to to walk in direction of our capital city and hitchhike. Previously i said my parent that i will spend night at friends house, he say the same. In begin nobody stop but on the end stop a big truck. When door was open in truck sitting a guy with mustache and he speak some strange language i think he was from Turkey. We decide to enter to truck because we need to come on time for game. Guy was totally normal and drop off us on entrance of city. Only was scary thing to drive with him in truck and he didn't speak our language, but we survive. We take a bus and go to game.

When game was finish it was little bit before midnight so we can't do hitchhike now, its too dangerous. So we decide to go on train, but we didn't had money. We enter to train and conductor come to us when time come and ask us for tickets. We didn't had money or tickets so he ask us to go out on next station. When train almost arrive on next station we decide to go to restroom and lock a door and to stay there till our station. This plan work out and when we arrive to our station we go out but conductor saw us and yelled on us. But it was too late we arrived.

From that day i learn lesson that is not good to try to do things and not pay and laying our parents.

Crop Circles

Crop Circles who made them?

Crop circles first began cropping up in the 1970s, sparking claims that they were created by extraterrestrials. Although two men came forward in 1991 and said that they had created the patterns as a UFO hoax, they did not take responsibility for all of the crop circles, leading some people to believe that perhaps something paranormal is also responsible for the strange spheres. While scientists know paranormal forces have nothing to do with crop circles, the patterns are intriguing, with some scientists trying to figure out exactly how they are made.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/9d/Diablefaucheur.jpgThis one is very old picture of crop circles from 17. century and this is definitely made by devil.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c4/Crop_circles_Swirl.jpgThis one is made by aliens, because is too big that human being can make this for just a one night and that nobody can notice this.
This massive 780-foot (238 meters) crop circle appeared in 2001 in the remote area of Milk Hill in Wiltshire, England. The elaborate design is composed of 409 circles that form a pattern called a double, or six-sided, triskelion, which is a motif consisting of three interlocking spirals.

http://www.digitaltrends.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/NVIDIA-crop-circle.jpgThis one is made by Big foot. It only make sense! These circles are used as their dinner tables. Have you ever seen a Bigfoot eat? Have you ever seen a Crop Circle made? I am totally on to this!

Week four

Outgoing/Vacation with family

I will today speak of one time when i went with my family on a Agricultural fair in Novi Sad, second biggest city in my country.

Agricultural Fair in Novi Sad is the leading trade fair in the field of agribusiness in the Western Balkans and Southeastern Europe. In seven days of the Fair meet and connect manufacturers, retailers, professionals, scientists, politicians, business delegations and representatives of the media and visitors from all areas of social and economic sectors.

Going to Agricultural fair for my family is like standard family thing where my family going every year in month may. This is not just regular Agricultural fair, this is much more there than fair. On fair you can see so many things, starting of new mechanical products for the field, like new tractors, agricultural machinery, equipment and parts thereof, different food and drink, livestock, machinery and equipment for the food industry, vegetable product and petrochemicals, dedicated facilities and processing plants, processing and storage of crop production, packaging, agro innovation in agriculture and everything else what is in relation to the agriculture.

The most funnies thing was when i watch for the first time alive horse racing. Which is include: Skipping an obstacle: horse and rider jump over cellular barriers. The attractiveness of this discipline stunned me. So now I understand why this discipline has contributed to this being the most common equestrian sport in the world. Also acrobatics on the horse that combines horseback riding, gymnastics and acrobatics. While horse counters in a circle, an athlete that performs gymnastic program.

Every year when i went on the the fair i see something new and something interesting. I think this year will be again some new innovation in agriculture to see it.

Till next time...
